HYDERABAD: In a matter of months, diabetics may no longer have to suffer a painful prick to test sugar levels. DiabetOmics, a global medical diagnostics company, is developing the world’s first patented non-invasive, saliva-based diabetes monitoring test.
The company is setting up its global manufacturing facility in Medak near Hyderabad. The company will utilize this facility to commercialize the non-invasive diabetes tests in India and abroad.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was recently held. The global burden of diabetics is over 375 million, with India (69 million) and China (109 million) as major epicenters for diabetes.
“The non-invasive diabetes test is an innovation that could change the approach to the detection and monitoring of diabetes globally, which will improve patient outcomes and provide an opportunity to reduce the economic burden for developing middle and low income countries,” said Dr Srinivasa Nagalla, CEO of DiabetOmics.
In addition to saliva-based diabetes tests, the company is currently developing point-of-care tests for rapid screening of Type I diabetes and early detection of diabetic kidney and eye complications. “We are definitely going to disrupt the current method of diabetes testing in the world. We are excited that the Indian manufacturing facility will help us commercialize the product in our country and globally. We are optimistic about the patient benefits and economic returns it presents to all of its stakeholders,” said Venkatadri Bobba, director- DiabetOmics.
